Color Theory, Form, Illustration, Layout, & Typography

This course taught me essential contemporary design strategies applicable to advertising, communications, & design industries. It was the foundational course that set me on my design journey as it laid the groundwork to produce quality designs in both digital & print scenarios. I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to Instructor Ron Smith, he was essential in getting me where I am today.

Overview

Instructor Smith required students to record & submit their design process as part of their final submission, this was an key takeaway of mine from this course as it truly is an invaluable skill in the design industry. Since completing this project, I have retained the logo & incorporated it into my own personal/professional branding, it can be seen on my resume as well as this website.

Challenge

COMM 468 challenged me to create a "Personal Identity Design" through conceptualizing and designing a personal logo along with a business as well as thank you card. Instructor Smith required students to record & submit their design process as part of their final submission. This assignment taught me the basics on design theory; from sketching to black & white concepts to font explorations to color theory to gathering feedback to continuiously iterating to the final result.

Takeaways

Developing my visual identity in COMM 468 gave me a cohesive personal brand to call my own, as well as an eye-catching resume & website counterpart. Since completing this course, I have made slight modifications to this logo, however, it remains largely unchanged. I realize that one day I'll create a new visual identity, but for the time being, I am very proud to call this one my own.
